Applying the Incident Command System
to emergencies in business

Responsibilities for business continuity planning, emergency response and security are converging. Today, contingency planners usually leave emergency response to fire, police, civil defence and health authorities. But in a disaster, a contingency planner is expected to become (or advise) the company’s Incident Commander.

ICS is the tested, proven way to assign, track and manage the countless tasks required to respond quickly and effectively to an emergency. In ICS, responders are organized into four teams: Planning, Logistics, Operations or Finance/Administration. Our course teaches you what each team does, and how to assign tasks to the proper teams. The course gives you practice in assigning common emergency tasks, and lets you try to apply what you’ve learned in a tabletop disaster exercise at the end of the course.

The course aims to teach you the principles and methodology of ICS, so when the time comes, you can concentrate on recovering your business.

Objective

  • Learn to organize and assign emergency tasks using the ICS structure and tracking systems; a practice exercise is part of the course
  • Learn how public authorities are likely to respond to an incident

Handouts & Takeaways
Every participant will receive the following handouts:

  • Integrated Incident Status Chart
  • Incident Actions Plans (IAPs)
  • Scenario for ICS Training for Executives
  • Facilities Pre-Incident Check-List
  • Facilities Check-List During Incident
  • Facilities Post-Incident Check-List

Extra! Every participant will handle and discharge a hand-held fire extinguisher, commonly found in offices.
