Sing Springs Standard SPRING Singapore, Singapore Business Federation and Singapore’s Economic Development Board say they will submit a Technical Reference (TR) on business continuity to the ISO Technical Management Board. They hope their pre-standard will become an ISO standard, like ISO 9001 for quality or ISO 14001 for environmental management.

Seven 7/7 Lessons The Business Continuity Institute reports lessons from the London bombings in July. They include:

1. voice communication
2. accounting for employees
3. updating employees
4. transportation problems

5. next-of-kin
6. proximity to /distance from recovery sites
7. sources of information

Good timing: in response to #1, #2, #3 and #7, read Nathaniel Forbes’ August article on ZDNetM about technologies for communication in emergencies.

In Case of Emergency (ICE) This seems a harmless idea that might actually be useful some time: keep the acronym ICE followed by an emergency contact’s name and phone number in your mobile phone so hospital staff can find it. List someone who knows your blood type, allergies, next-of-kin, other vital info.

Premium Price Only 12% of North American companies have lower insurance premium payments because they have a BCP, according to Strohl Systems survey. The connection between preparedness and insurance rates will get more attention after hurricane Katrina. For example, Continuity Forum is having a conference on BCP and insurance in September. Note: Strohl Systems is an advertiser on Forbes Calamity Prevention’s web site.

Note: We’ll have Katrina items next month, after some time for reflection.
