BCP News for Multinational Companies

Singapore Signs Satyam India’s Satyam Computer Services announced a regional recovery center in Singapore. Immigration, not infrastructure, was the issue: Singapore offered speedy entry for up to 1,000 Satyam programmers in a disaster. Last year, India’s Infosys Technologies chose another island, Mauritius, for recovery, in part because of travel convenience.

Lost In Space SingTel Expan has 400,000 ft2 (37,000 m2) of recovery space for lease at Failsafe’s former ‘MegaCenter’ at Kim Chuan. Singapore already has way too much data centre space available, but this space is owned by Singapore’s major telco, so its connectivity should be excellent.

In Taiwan last month, we saw 580,000 ft2 (54,000 m2) of first class recovery space about 50 kilometers from Taipei, owned by Acer Group. The “largest data centre in Asia-Pacific region” has earthquake-resistance, redundant power and communication feeds, satellite backup – everything that a US$70 million investment can buy. China Trust Bank has 120 recovery seats there. Hewlett-Packard may build a shared recovery facility inside.

Security Alerts The Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) site provides free, daily email about security issues around the world. The US State department established this site for US companies with offices “overseas.” Lots of bulletins about anti-war demonstrations recently.
