A Recovery Time Objective, or RTO, is the number of hours or days in which you want to recover a resource or resume a business activity. Your business continuity plan is designed to meet the RTO's your company chooses. For example, you might determine that customer service must be functioning again after an interruption within one (1) day. The RTO is one (1) day. You might decide, on the other hand, that the RTO for your email system is four (4) hours. In some Internet businesses, an RTO might be measured in minutes.
